Special Collection for Persecuted Christians
The number of persecuted Christians in the world has topped a staggering 100 million according to a recent report from Open Doors USA, an organization that assists persecuted Christians. Paying homage recently to the courage of the Apostles and that of the first Christian community, Pope Francis referenced the “atrocious, inhuman and incomprehensible persecutions, sadly present in many parts of the world today, often under the silent gaze of all”.
Bishop Murphy urges us to reach out and protect these victims who are suffering who are our so often the targets of violence and murder, along with other ethnic and religious minorities. To that end, a special collection will be taken up in our parish the weekend of August 1-2, 2015 to assist those who are suffering religious persecution in Syria and Iraq and wherever needed.
Please continue to pray for peace and if you are able, to support this special collection to assist for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Feast of the Assumption (Worship)
Date: 08/15/2015 - 08/15/2015
Location: Saint Anne's Church
Time: 8:30AM Mass
Saturday, August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. This year because the holyday is on a Saturday it is observed but is not a day of obligation. The scriptures do not give us much information about Mary, but from what we read in scripture we get a glimpse of what her life’s journey was like. She conceived and gave birth to the Son of God, searched for twelve year old Jesus and found him in the temple. She was with him during his public ministry and stood at the foot of the cross. The feast of the Assumption marks the completion of her journey when she went body and soul into heaven to be forever with the Lord, the son she bore. Her journey comes full circle – she lived a life united with God for she was conceived without original sin, and in perfect holiness, ends life by being united with God.
On November 1, 1950 Pope Pius XII defined infallibly the Assumption of Mary as a dogma of faith. He proclaimed this dogma after consultation of bishops, theologians and laity. What the pope solemnly declared was already a common belief in the Catholic Church. The Assumption is the only dogma proclaimed since the 1870 decree on papal infallibility. This decree alludes to the wars of the 20th century, growth of materialism, and the destruction of life and desecration of the human body which threaten our human sense of our God given identity.
For today the Virgin Mother of God was assumed into heaven as the beginning and image of your Church’s coming to perfection and a sign of sure hope and comfort to your pilgrim people; rightly you would not allow her to see the corruption of the tomb since from her own body she marvelously brought forth your incarnate Son, the Author of all life.
(Preface from Mass on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin)
Readings for Feast of the Assumption
Revelation 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab
1 Corinthians 15:20-27
