How Do I?

Special Needs Ministry

Saint Anne’s welcomes families in our parish who have children with special needs;
this ministry offers support and the opportunity to develop relationships
among families and other parishioners who wish to be of help.

Respite Christmas party

The Respite community enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Party on Friday, December 4th.  As they gathered for dinner, the children and their buddies prayed together and gave thanks for the gift of their shared friendship.  Santa Claus made a special appearance (with a "photo op") and presented each child with a gift.  We are especially grateful to the silent Santas among us who are so generous, quietly helping to make our Respite celebrations special for everyone!

Special Needs Mass

Once each month, on Saturday at 5:00PM, Mass is celebrated for families who have children with special needs. All are welcome and invited to this monthly celebration of Eucharist, where the presence of special children is a gift and the grace of God is evident. Many people from the parish are happy to join together in prayer at this special Mass. Please check the parish calendar for upcoming Mass dates.

Respite Care Program

Saint Anne’s Respite Care program offers parishioners who are parents of special kids a ‘night out’ while their children are cared for by volunteers at Saint Anne’s. Each child is matched one-to-one with a buddy for the evening, and together they enjoy a light dinner and a variety of activities including sports, music and arts and crafts. Extra events such as the Respite Games at Spirit Day, Respite Bowling, a living Nativity at Christmas, Parents’ Dinner and our annual Talent Show add to the fun. For more information, please contact Linda Leone at lindaleone@stannesgc.org or (516) 352-5904.

Mothers’ Support Group

Mothers of special children are invited to participate in our support group, which meets periodically. We pray together and share what it means to be the parent of a special child, offering one another encouragement and wisdom earned through personal experience.
