The CMA supports the many activities and ministries of the Catholic Church all over Long Island. These include non-parish ministries such as Catholic Charities; chaplaincies to hospitals and prisons; educational support of diocesan high schools and campus ministries at various colleges; priesthood and deacon formation; diocesan ministries such as the Tribunal and Chancery. Yes, parishes are the soul of the Church; at the same time, the mission of the Church extends well beyond the parishes of the diocese.
A beauty of our Catholic Faith and our participation in the sacramental life of the Church, particularly Baptism and the Eucharist, remind us we are more than a local community church. At St. Anne’s our Parish Social Ministry activities such as Sponsor-A-Family at Thanksgiving and Christmas make clear we understand our participation and responsibilities extend well beyond “parish boundaries.” The mission of the Church and the exercise of the gospel know no boundaries. Participation in the CMA allows us all to share further in the mission of the Church.
“… the Lord speaks to us through our brothers and sisters, especially in the faces and the stories of those who are in need,”
