Parish Social Ministry March 23, 2014 - April 06, 2014 On-going Easter Baskets for Children in Need

Please return Easter Baskets filled with Easter candy and other traditional Easter goodies to the Loaves and Fishes closets by April 6th. In addition, we ask you to bring one jar of peanut butter or box of cereal which will be given to each family receiving Easter baskets (the food items should be separate from the basket). The closets are located in the rear of the church (open from 8:00AM to 2:30AM all week).

There will be a Holy Hour with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday, April 4th at 8:00PM in the Church following Stations of the Cross (please note change in usual location).

Stations of the Cross will be prayed every Friday during Lent following the 7:00PM Mass.

Mass will be celebrated with our special needs community on Saturday, April 5th at 5:00PM in the cafeteria. All are welcome to attend this special celebration of the Eucharist.

Brunch will be held at the Garden City Country Club on Sunday, April 6th after the 10:00AM Mass.  Msgr. Ralph Sommer will be the speaker.  The topic will be "How Pope Francis connects teh Holy Past to the Holy Future". Reservations are required.

Faith Formation April 07, 2014 7:00PM-8:15PM To Heal and Be Healed

Saint Anne's Healing Symposium

Jesus asked, "Do you wish to be healed?" From His words in the Gospel to the most recent words of Pope Francis, ours is a faith that believes in the critical importance of healing of all kinds.

Hundreds of parishioners attended the opening session of the Healing Symposium led by Father Robert Joerger on March 3rd and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.  Please join us for the two upcoming talks:

Father Edward L. Beck, C.P. is the author of three books, God Underneath, Unlikely Ways Home and Soul Provider.  Father Beck is the on air Faith and Religion Contributor to CNN.  He gives retreats and workshops on Spirituality throughout the United States.

Father Paul Egan describes himself as a "man of faith, a Passions religious, a priest, a preacher and a runner."  Father Fagan served for ten years as retreat director of the Passionist Spiritual Center in Riverdale and is now a traveling preacher.  One of his heroes has always been the Apostle Paul, a traveling preacher himself.  Sharing his faith with others in a genuine way, as Saint Paul did, is Father Paul's life long goal.

All talks will be held in the Church, hospitality to follow in the cafeteria.

Palms will be distributed and blessed at each Mass.

Sacraments April 14, 2014 3:00PM - 9:00PM Diocesan Day of Reconciliation

Priests will be available in the Church to hear confessions between 3:00PM and 9:00PM.  

This day has become one of the best days of the year as hundreds of people come to each parish church to share in this sacrament which absolves sin and gives to each participant a fresh start and new beginning.

Sharing this Day of Reconciliation is great way to prepare for the remainder of Holy Week and Easter Sunday!

Alert Event April 18, 2014 Holy Land Collection

Christians around the world are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and Easter.  Our hearts, minds and prayers are especially aware of the Holy Land.

Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called on to support Christians in the Holy Land.  Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives.

As a pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the annual Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect the Holy Places.  When you donate on Good Friday, you are supporting Christians in the Holy Land.  

Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and feeding the poor, providing religious formation and education, maintaining shrines and parishes and conducting pastoral ministry.  For more informaiton, visit www.MyFranciscan.org.

The Good Friday Collection is requested by the Holy Father.  Please be as generous as your abundance allows.

Parish Social Ministry April 20, 2014 - May 04, 2014 Mother's Day Gift Bag Collection

Preparing for Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a time for families to honor their mothers.  This special occasion gives us the opportunity to support young mothers who have chosen life for their babies despite overwhelming challenges in their own lives.  We would like to provide the young women who are currently residing at Momma's House, Mother of Good Counsel Home and Bethany House with gift bags filled with special items for Mother's Day.

We plan to deliver 50 tote bags to these homes prior to Mother's Day.  We have the bags, but now your help is needed in gathering the gift items to fill them!

 

The following items are most needed:

Bath/Body Wash Hand/Face Toothbrushes/Toothpaste
Shampoo Coms/Brushes Small boxes of candy
Deodorant Make-up Socks
Nail Polish/Manicure Kit Jewelry Nightgowns (all sizes)

The Sisters of the Holy Child will be making an appeal for membership in the Propogation of the Faith at Saint Anne's on April 26th & 27th.

Sister Margaret Rogers, SHCJ, who spent many years in Africa, will be speaking at all the Masses.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Divine Mercy Sunday

Saint Anne's will paricipate in the world-wide celebration of Divine Mercy on April 27th @ 3:00PM in the Church. Expostion of the Blessed Sacrament will take place followed by recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and quiet time for meditation.  The hour will conclude with Benediction.  Please join your fellow parishioners to pray for peace and reconciliation in the world and in all families.

Saint Anne's Youth Ministry is founded on three main values: faith, community and service.  

At our regular meetings there are games and activities that encourage teens to form new friendships and have easy converstaions with many different people.  Teens come from various local high schools and all are always welcome.  New members are invited to join at any time!

Alert Event April 29, 2014 7:30PM VIRTUS Training

Virtus Training will be held at Saint Anne’s on Tuesday, April 29th at 7:30PM in the cafeteria.

To register online for this or any other Virtus session offered by the diocese, go to the diocesan website, drvc.org and click on the Virtus tab to register.

If you do not have internet access, please call Susanne Blum in the Parish Office at 352-5904 to register.

All Church and school volunteers are required to attend Virtus training.

The training session is entitled “Protecting God’s Children”. The goal of Virtus training is to empower adults by raising their awareness of the signs of child sexual abuse and by offering a plan to prevent abuse. All volunteers must also complete required paperwork which is available at the rectory or in the school office. The safety of all members of our faith community and most especially our children is a top priority. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please join your fellow parishioners at our upcoming Networking Event on Wednesday, April 30th at 7:30PM - Saint Anne's School Cafeteria.

Members of Saint Anne's Professional Networking Group gathered on March 26th for an opportunity to network with each other.  Fellow parishioner, Bill McAndrews led a workshop focused on goal setting.  A follow-up session is being planned for those who wish to explore the topic further.  Many thanks to Bill for sharing his professional expertise with the grup and to all who attended.  Click here to see pictures from this event.
