Parish Social Ministry April 20, 2014 - May 04, 2014 Mother's Day Gift Bag Collection

Preparing for Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a time for families to honor their mothers.  This special occasion gives us the opportunity to support young mothers who have chosen life for their babies despite overwhelming challenges in their own lives.  We would like to provide the young women who are currently residing at Momma's House, Mother of Good Counsel Home and Bethany House with gift bags filled with special items for Mother's Day.

We plan to deliver 50 tote bags to these homes prior to Mother's Day.  We have the bags, but now your help is needed in gathering the gift items to fill them!

The following items are most needed:

Bath/Body Wash Hand/Face Toothbrushes/Toothpaste
Shampoo Coms/Brushes Small boxes of candy
Deodorant Make-up Socks
Nail Polish/Manicure Kit Jewelry Nightgowns (all sizes)

Please mark your donations "Mother's Day" and place them in the Loaves and Fishes closets in the Church lobby by Sunday, May 4th.  For additional information, please call the Parish Office at (516) 352-5904 or e-mail lindaleone@stannesgc.org.

Alert Event May 01, 2014 - May 11, 2014 Respect Life - Baby Bottle Fundraiser

Don’t Forget Your Baby Bottle!

On the weekend of May 10th and 11th, Saint Anne's will be hosting a Baby Bottle Fundraiser to benefit The Life Center of Long Island.

The Life Center is a crisis pregnancy center that counsels women and men who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. They provide maternity housing, medical care, referrals, cribs, car seats, diapers and ALL other baby items that are needed.

We are asking that you pick up a baby bottle and fill it with your change. Most importantly, we are asking you to recite the prayer on the bottle. The prayer attached to the bottle will enable the counselors at The Life Center to say just the right words a mother or father may need to hear. It especially opens a mother’s heart to accept the truth. We believe these prayers lead abortion-minded women to call The Life Center in the first place.

Let us pray with our whole heart for the lives of our unborn children.

Alert Event May 18, 2014 After the 8:30AM, 10:00AM, and 11:45AM Masses Knights of Columbus Membership Drive

We’re Looking For a Few Good Men

For the last twenty years, The Msgr. John C. Seidenschwang Council has been an active part of the St. Anne’s community. You’ve seen us at the Blood Drives, defensive driving classes and the beverage truck on Spirit Day. The virtues of our Order: Charity, Unity & Fraternity, are embodied by our membership, whom we call “Brothers.” Wouldn’t you like to join us?

We regularly sponsor charitable gatherings such as concerts, shows and dances and the proceeds are donated to causes which are discussed and voted upon by our members.

Our annual dues are nominal ($25) and our meetings are held once a month, in the school cafeteria. If you go to School, work full time or are retired, we ask only that you put in what your time allows. There is no clock to punch, and no one keeps a record of your attendance. We find that the old adage “Many hands make light work” is most applicable.

In addition to our charitable efforts, we also gather socially: as a brotherhood, and with our families. If you’re looking for an outlet, where you can “give back,” the Knights of Columbus is for you.

We will be outside of Church after the 8:30AM, 10:00AM & 11:45AM Masses today. Please feel free to stop by, have a cup of coffee and a bagel, and get to know what we are all about. Become a part of the Knights of Columbus here at St. Anne’s for the next 20 years (and beyond)!

For more information, please contact Anthony Battista at ajbattista@aol.com or click here.

Alert Event May 22, 2014 7:00PM - 8:15PM To Heal or Be Healed

Saint Anne's Healing Symposium - To Heal and Be Healed

Please join us for the 3rd talk of the Healing Symposium

Father Paul Fagan C.P.

Thursday, May 22, 2014 @ 7:00PM - 8:15PM

Father Paul Fagan describes himself as “a man of faith, a Passionist religious, a priest, a preacher and a runner.” Father Fagan served for ten years as retreat director of the Passionist Spiritual Center in Riverdale and is now a travelling preacher. One of his heroes has always been the Apostle Paul, a traveling preacher himself. Sharing his faith with others in a genuine way, as Saint Paul did, is Father Paul’s life long goal!

All are welcome! The talk will be held in the Church with hospitality following.  It is not necessary to have attended the previous talks to join us.

On Monday, April 7, 2014, well over 300 people gathered in the Church to hear Father Edward Beck, a well-known writer and commentator on matters of faith, who was very pleased to be the featured speaker for the second talk of the Healing Symposium at Saint Anne’s.

Father Beck reflected on what healing is, how it happens, and whether we actually resist it. Many of his comments resonated with those in attendance. Father Beck pointed out that the instruments of God’s grace who lead us to healing are often unexpected, and that it is often our weakness or vulnerability that leads us to God, rather than our strength. As an example, he shared the Scripture reading from the Second Book of Kings where Naaman, a military commander afflicted with leprosy, is led to healing by a slave girl. Father Beck invited us to reflect on how our pride can be a source of suffering, but that humility brings us toward healing. When we are healed of anything, we are called to know that it is from God, the source of all blessings.

Hundreds of parishioners and friends came to Saint Anne’s Church despite the frigid weatheron Monday, March 3, 2014,  to hear Father Robert Joerger offer the first talk in our Healing Symposium series.

In sharing stories from his own life, Father Joerger touched on various things that were very real in the lives of many who were present. Speaking of the ‘dark night’ that can come upon us, when our uncertainties become deep questions we cannot answer, he said, “We have to hold on to things we do not understand… we have to hold on to situations that seem ‘unfixable’, until we realize that we are not called to fix things. We are not called to be ‘fixed’… we are called to be loved!” He reminded us that many saints and mystics have given us the message to accept our wounds and struggles and let them become sources of blessing.

Alert Event May 31, 2014 - June 01, 2014 All weekend Masses Religious Retirement Fund Collection

"THIS IS WHAT THE LORD ASKS OF YOU, ONLY THIS…."

The weekend of May 31/June 1 is the annual collection for the Religious Retirement Fund.

Religious Sisters and Brothers who have been involved in education, health care and social ministry in the Diocese of Rockville Centre need our help. The stipends being earned by young members of Religious Communities are no longer enough to support the needs of the elderly members of their Communities. The number of elderly Religious in assisted living or nursing facilities continues to rise and health care costs are rising too.

For this reason, the Diocese of Rockville Centre, for the past twenty-nine years, has committed to return to our Religious Communities a portion of our gifts of treasure, in appreciation for the many years of service to the people of our Diocese of these dedicated servants of Our Lord.

Please come prepared next week to assist the elderly Religious with a once-a-year gift, as generous as your means will allow. These gifts will be distributed among the twenty-nine communities who serve our Diocese.

Your gift may be placed in the mail or dropped in the collection basket on this weekend of May 31/June 1. On behalf of the Religious who serve in our parishes and hospitals, I thank you for your generosity.
