Worship December 01, 2014 6:45PM An Evening of Sacred Liturgy and Music

ADVENT AT SAINT ANNE’S

The Church celebrates the holy and wonderful season of Advent beginning on November 30, 2014. The words of the first reading on the Second Sunday of Advent, from the book of the prophet Isaiah, remind us of the comfort and consolation God offers his people, particularly through the Incarnation.

An Evening of Sacred Liturgy and Music
Monday, December 1, 2014
Music will begin at 6:45PM in the Church followed by 7:00PM Mass

Come and begin the Advent season with our Music Ministry as we gather for the 7:00PM Mass and an evening of sacred music. An adaptation of “Lessons and Carols” this night is a great opportunity to remember the real “reason for the season” and hear the wonderful gifts of our Music Ministry. The blessing of the crèche on the rectory lawn will take place after Mass followed by lighting of the Christmas tree outside of Church. Cocoa and cookies hosted by the Knights of Columbus will follow in McCloskey Auditorium.

Sacraments December 06, 2014 8:30AM Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament is available to those who are ill, bringing God’s healing and strength. Anointing of the Sick is especially appropriate for anyone with serious illness, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, those who are being admitted to the hospital, or anyone who is elderly.

In this sacrament, Jesus asks, “Do you want to be healed?” Through this sacrament, God offers us the gift of peace. Please note that the Sacrament of Anointing is intended to bring healing to those who are sick and is not only the “last rites” for those who are dying.

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is celebrated on the first Saturday of each month at the 8:30AM Mass. If a loved one is unable to come to church, please call the rectory to arrange for a home visit.

*Healing Symposium Mass—December 8th at 7:00PM

The second season and first year of Saint Anne's Healing Symposium recently concluded. Each of our six presenters was very well received and inspired us with their insight and personal journeys of healing and faith. Their perceptive comments resonated with those in attendance:

  • We hold on to things we do not understand. We hold on to situations that seem “unfixable”. We are not called to be “fixed”, we are called to be loved!
  • Our pride can be a source of suffering, but humility brings us towards healing.
  • Healing often starts with knowing and understanding yourself.
  • Where have I been hurt? Can I reflect upon it and let it go?
  • To get past the hurt of the present, you need to look into the future, to step into the eyes of God.
  • Choosing a path of mercy has a long lasting effect not only on you but on many others.
  • Forgiveness is a necessary step on the journey to healing
  • “Nothing can separate us from the love of God” (Romans 8: 31-39). You can get in the way, but God is always there.

If there is a common theme in the presentations it may be that healing is not easy. We cannot do it alone. Whether our pain be physical, emotional or spiritual, whether we are seeking a greater sense of peace in our lives or wish to be an instrument of healing, God’s help is needed.

Since the planning stages of the Healing Symposium, we always had a desire to include a liturgical component. As we celebrate the very beginnings of Mary’s life on this Holyday of Obligation, we also seek her intercession to guide us in our own desire for healing. Recalling the opening words of the Memorare,

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided,

we invite you to join us on December 8th at the 7:00PM Mass with the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.

All are Welcome!
